A Yerevan-based musician makes his debut on HYPERSONICS with a six-track album that embodies the commencement of a new chapter and a poignant farewell to the past.

Amidst the chaotic darkness of the world and the partings it brings, funkshn, who grew up on the outskirts of Moscow, extends an invitation to celebrate the pure joy of light-heartedness. However, it’s not as straightforward as it may seem—his genre-less experiments initially felt more like a daring escape into the uncharted.

Resonating with the classic dubstep vibes of the 2000s and fueled by his enduring passion for drum'n'bass, funkshn weaves together pounding percussion and grimily ecstatic synths. While ‘softyd’ set the course by blending whimsical sounds with frenetic rhythms, the self-titled track allowed the producer to realize his capacity to create happiness on his own. ‘shocker’ is overloaded and unpredictable, reminiscent of his earlier releases on the Peer label. ‘runner’ and ‘fracted’ delve into more complex emotions, exploring themes of closedness and isolation.

The album's speed disruptors and unexpected stops will ignite any dystopian dancefloor. As it’s a send-off to the life stage, towards an uncertain future, ‘rebord’ serves as a reminder that there's always energy to be sought—whether from within or outside.
